Bounkong Douangboupha an immigrant from Laos and his family came to America in 1976, with his wife Bone, 8 months pregnant and 3 young girls ... an empty pocket, head full of dreams and a heart with excitement for his family's future life in America.
Raised by a single mother .. as a child, Bounkong was not allowed to go to school because he had to help his mom cook and sell food on the streets of Champasack, Laos.
He yearned for an education, so after his daily work was done he would go to the temple too clean and do what the monks needed, monks then would teach him how to read and write.
He served along side the US soldiers in the Vietnam war and this aided him in bringing his family to America. He was so excited and hopeful of seeing a better future for him and his family.
